David Martin is a Consultant with Mobius Functus, a firm that provides consulting and mediation services related to e discovery and complex litigation management issues.

Mr. Martin is a former Vice President, Senior Legal Counsel, Litigation for Medtronic, Inc…, a global leader in medical technology, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota servicing patients and physicians in 120 countries through more than 38,000 employees. During his tenure at Medtronic Mr. Martin developed electronic discovery platforms and implemented internal process based solutions across all litigation and investigation electronic data demands. Mr. Martin was previously responsible for the internal supervision and outside coordination of all non-IP litigation management, and development of strategic initiatives for complex litigation challenges.

Prior to joining Medtronic in 2000, Mr. Martin was a partner at Rider, Bennett, Egan & Arundel, LLP Minneapolis, MN and at Doherty, Rumble & Butler, P.A.

in St. Paul, MN. For seven years he chaired the DR&B litigation department. Mr. Martin has had extensive first chair trial experience in multiple matters including LP gas explosion cases, oil refinery and gas production disputes, small aircraft litigation, products liability actions, TDI exposure actions, Federal 1983 claims and commercial disputes.

Mr. Martin is a former Chairman of the Product Liability Advisory Counsel Amicus Committee, and a former member of the PLAC Board of Directors. He is a former Master of the Warren E. Burger Inns of Court, past President of the Minnesota Gamma Eta Gamma Law Alumni Association, Past Ramsey County Rules Committee and a Qualified Neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice. Mr. Martin has frequently presented on issues related to the Federal Preemption defense, defense strategies in drug and device litigation, mediation and negotiation, and electronic discovery issues.

Mr. Martin has a BS from Sterling College, Sterling Kansas, and JD from the University of Minnesota.
